Welcome to Dandy Apples! My name is Arielle and I have a sweet tooth.

However, I also try to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet.  When I realized that vegan, low-sugar desserts taste just as good as (if not better than) their junk-food counterparts, I never went back!  (OK, sometimes I sneak those “other” desserts in, but not too often!)  Since healthier desserts are harder to come by, and I’d probably go broke anyway if I bought them as often as I’d like, I decided to start making them myself.  Then this blog was born. 🙂

Although I am not completely vegan, all of the recipes I post are.  I mainly post dessert, breakfast and snack recipes that are on the “sweet” side, but every so often I’ll post a savoury snack recipe.  I’ll also occasionally write food-related posts that don’t have a recipe (such as reviews for food products.)

For my “day job” I perform genomics research as a Biophysics graduate student.  I’m thinking about starting a science blog in the future, probably focusing on genomics, genetics and quantitative biology research. If any of you would be interested in reading such a blog, please let me know!

  1. YaY! Good to know that there’re other fellow bio/ science bloggers out there. I’ve never actually read a science blog before, do you just talk about recent science advancements in it?

Hello Nadiya, thanks for stopping by my blog. 🙂 Yes, many science blogs that I’ve seen discuss current research – kind of like what you would see in the Science section of the newspaper (except without any interviewing.) Some are more educational than others – they might go in more depth into the background of the topic or give a thorough explanation of key concepts. The intended audience can also vary, from the general public to researchers in the same field. I would prefer blogging to the general public, and maybe also do some posts that are more educational.
